Terence Au began his musical journey at the age of seven where his first instrument was the piano. Terence entered UCSI University in 2005 to pursue his bachelor degree in music. Under the tutelage of Mr. Ian Lim Kean Seng, he majored in vocal performance and studied piano with Ms. Chee Su Yen and Ms. Geneviene Wong. He obtained the Associate of Trinity College London (ATCL) in Voice Recital in 2010 and Licentiate of Trinity College London (LTCL) in voice Recital in 2011. 

Terence completed his Master in Vocal Performance at Birmingham Conservatoire in 2012 under tutelage of Justin Lavender and Gwion Thomas. During his studies in Birmingham Conservatoire, he has worked with Prof. Julian Pike, Robin Bowman, Jane Robinson, Simon Nicholls, Catherine Benson, Stephen Barlow, Helen Yorke, Michael Berry, Olivia Blackburn, Patrizia Dina, Paul Spicer, and Mak Chi Hoe. He has involved in many opera roles such as Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro by Mozart), Leporello (Don Giovanni by Mozart), Papageno (Die Zauberflöte by Mozart), Alfonso (Cosi fan tutte by Mozart), Dr Falke (Die Fledermaus by Strauss), Henry Chan (Street Scene by Kurt Weill), etc.

In 2006, he was the guest performer for “A Malaysian Affair – A Tapestry of Malaysian Songs” organized by Young Kuala Lumpur Singers. Terence was invited to perform for “Kuala Lumpur Choral Festival” concert for 2007 and 2008. In the following year, he perform at No Black Tie for “A Classical Evening” Recital and guest performer for “Music Properganda”, for the role of Marcello in “Quando me’n vo soletta per la via” scene from La Boheme by Puccini. In 2010, he performed for Schumann Festival “Of foreign Lands and People” organized by Artists Platform and Goethe Institute Malaysia. 

In 2008, he was the champion of the 2nd Malaysian Youth Orchestral Foundation (singing category) and was placed 3rd in the Grand Finals of the Patron Award. He was also the champion of Kuala Lumpur Classical Singing Competition in 2007, 2008 and 2010. He was also awarded Second Prize in the Malaysian National Classical Singing Competition for the year 2008 and 2010. Terence was the winner of Schumann Prize organized by Goethe Institute in 2010.

In 2010, he was selected to represent Malaysia at the Asian Youth Choir (AYC) which was held in the Philippines. He was also selected to perform with the Asian Pacific Youth Choir (APYC) in Macau in 2011 and Beijing in 2012. He was the bass singer in both Chamber Choir and Camerata in Birmingham Conservatoire. He was also the bass singer in The Icarus Vocal Ensemble conducted by Mak Chi Hoe in Birmingham.

Terence is currently vocal totur UiTM Shah Alam and Segi College. He is also teaching choir in Sam Tet Secondary School, Sam Tet Primary School, Ave Maria Convent Primary School, Raja Jumaat High School, Methodist ACS Secondary School, Jalan Davidson Primary school, Setia Eco Tenby International School, Bai Ling Community Choir, and Gaudeamus Youth Choir in Young Choral Academy.
