Gynger Soh

Gynger Soh, Soprano 

Known for her mellifluous voice and singing agility, Gynger Soh has had her roots immersed in the classical music industry since young. She is the Vocal Coach, Academy Director of the Young Choral Academy USJ Taipan, in Kuala Lumpur and also the Choral Conductor of the Alumni Choir of the Taiwan Cheng Kung University Malaysia, Artistic Director/Founder of VOICES IN BLOOM International Singing Competition. 

Having won various singing competition titles under her belt, Gynger holds a Licentiate of Trinity College London Certificate (LTCL) & Associate of Trinity College of London (ATCL) in Voice Recital and Performance, and obtained ‘The Best Student Award’ in her music studies at the Malaysian Institute of Art (MIA). Her classical singing experience has included multiple performing opportunities in Hong Kong, Korea, Indonesia, Singapore and New York for festivals and competitions. In 2010, she represented Malaysia in the Asian Youth Choir, touring the Philippines. Over the years, she has obtained opportunities to work with international opera singers in Australia–Joseph Ward, Rosario La Spina, Milijana Nicolic, Magaret Schindler and Shaun Brown as well as conductors– Richard Lewis and Raymond Lawrence.  

Throughout the culmination of process in the years of performing, Gynger also has developed a strong passion for education and has been actively involved in the field since 2003. Encouraged by a drive to cultivate musical wholeness, one of Gynger’s most distinguished traits as a voice tutor lies in her ability to engage completely in the lives of her students; enabling a learning process that transcends outside the classroom. She has worked with several of her students who participated and won in competitions in Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong and China, some are music teachers and performers now. Due to the achievements of her students in the oversea, Gynger received three “Excellent Teacher ” awards given by China and Taiwan in 2018 and 2019. She believing that education is one of the most important function performed in our culture, she also has organized master classes for vocal enthusiasts with well-known singers and musicians, both international as well as local such as Nozomi Yamada, Sonya Keogh and Richard Lewis. Her interest in providing a platform for children to perform has led her into organizing the first and second Voices in Bloom Nationwide Children Singing Competition in 2013 and 2015 respectively, and some singing workshop under the same umbrella organization in 2014. 

Wanting to musically engage with young adults on a larger scale, Gynger formed a ladies chamber group – The Opera Bridesmaids, who successfully made their debut concert in December 2014 followed by Echoes of Grace in September 2016. Under her guidance, the ensemble has appeared in several performances since its birth. In the year 2018, she led the Alumni Choir of Cheng Kung University Malaysia  for to the International Chinese Choral Competition held in Taiwan and won the Second Prize. Gynger also extended her career to charity event in 2019, she was the artistic director in the VOICES OF COMPASION Charity Concert, conducting a concert of the Alumni Choir of Taiwan Cheng Kung University Malaysia, which attracted over 700 audiences to the concert and successfully donated 2.5 thousands to the disabled house —Pertubuhan Kebajikan USJ SUBANG JAYA. 

Among the opera roles that Gynger has played include Musetta (La Boheme), Susanna (Marriage of Figaro), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Despina (Cosi Fan Tutte) and Juliette (Romeo and Juliette). Aside from opera performances, Gynger holds a special fondness towards sacred music. She has been invited as a solo performer as well as a chamber singer for concerts such as ‘Sing Unto the Lord’ in 2012, a touring concert organized by the Yin Qi Sacred Music Ministry and Bach’s “Magnificat” which was performed at the Lutheran Church, Kuala Lumpur in 2013. She was invited to perform the premier of Bach’s ‘St. John Passion’ which was held at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Malaysia in 2015. Gynger was also returned to her high school  to perform as a guest soloist  in the 100years Anniversary Celebration –”Ten thousand Banquet I Love Chong Hwa”, organized by Chong Hwa High School Kluang, Johor.  In the year 2019 she was invited to perform in Taiwan Nasional Theatre for the “ JOUNEY OF LOVE “ with Taiwan CGM(Christian Gospel Mission)
