Ms. Lai Suk Yin holds a Kodaly Certificate in Music Education (Primary Level) from the Kodaly Music Education Institute of Australia, and completed her Trinity Grade 8 in Singing in 2010 under the tutelage of Ms. Soh Bee Teng.
Suk Yin has been a regular performer with the Young KL Singers since 2005. She competed with them in 2007 at the 1st Asian Choir Games in Jakarta, the 2010 World Choir Games in Shaoxing, and was also part of the team which competed in the 2018 Malaysian International Choral Festival, scoring a Gold Diploma and 3rd place in the Show Choir category. She was the resident mezzo soprano / alto for the Caipifruta Vocal Quartet which competed in the 2010 World Choir Games also, obtaining a Gold V Diploma in the Jazz Category and a Gold II Diploma in the Pop Category. In 2011, Caipifruta represented Malaysia in the 1st World Youth Choir Championships in Graz, Austria, returning with two silver medals for the Pop and Jazz categories respectively. Suk Yin is also part of the award-winning Young Choral Academy Teacher’s Ensemble, whose recent achievements include obtaining a Gold Medal (Level IV) in the Musica Sacra category of the 2018 Bali International Choral Festival, and being named Category Winner of the Mixed Choir Choir Category, Difficulty Level ll at the 1st Lanna International Choir Competition in 2016.
Suk Yin is active in the field of choral education. The schools she works with include SMK Seafield whose choir scored a High Silver at the 2015 Hoi An International Choir Festival as well as a High Silver at the 2016 5th Bali International Choral Festival, Sunway University which obtained a Gold Diploma in the 2016 MCE National Choir Competition, and SK Seri Selangor which scored a Gold Diploma and 3rd place in the Primary category of the 2018 MCE National Choir Competition. She is co-conductor of the Gaudeamus Youth Choir together with Mr. Mak Chi Hoe and Mr. Terence Au, which obtained a Gold Diploma in the Ensemble category of the 2018 Malaysian International Choral Festival. She regularly accompanies, and tutors for, the Kuala Lumpur Children’s choir.
